Hashtags for legal professions

Our recent hashtag analysis has focused on one of the increasingly busy sectors on Twitter and social media in general - the legal professions.

Encompassing lawyers and others in the legal trades, tweet volume has been rising steadily over the last few years.

The sector remains very immature in its understanding of the platform in general, amply demonstrated by a lack of any real engagement from most accounts.

A collection of surveys suggests that businesses on Twitter continue to ignore customers who contact them on the social media network.

The combined statistics, from sources in multiple countries and accounting for the monitoring of over 10,700 businesses, reveal that organisations have yet to fully understand the vital importance of feedback and managing their online relationships.

Pinterest drives DIY and Crafts interest

As Pinterest continues as the headline-grabbing social media platform of growth at present, online technology site Mashable has revealed its power in the DIY & Crafts sector.

Speaking to Mashable, Pinterest have revealed even they've taken note of the huge popularity of their site amongst "Crafters" and those who like to try their hand at "DIY".

Has the average Twitter user changed?

Statistics published by Beevolve suggest that the average Twitter user has changed in profile - albeit slightly.

Using a huge sample data set of 36 million users, the survey reveals some interesting points.  One thing that doesn't seem to have changed a great deal is the 53% of users that are females - because in 2011 this stood at 54%.

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service is to hold discussions with the legal professions, academics and representatives from Facebook and Twitter, on free speech via social media.

It follows the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the UK telling the BBC that "the right to be offensive has to be protected".

Autoreplying to Twitter followers

One of the questions we're often asked is how to set up a Twitter account to send an automated Direct Message (DM) to a new follower.

We have a nice short reply for this.  Don't.

We're not the only ones to think this either - Twitter recommend you don't too.

Whilst we're sure there are a small number of accounts that might have reason to do (though you really have to dig deep to justify it) the simple fact is that auto-replies to new followers have one common result - they annoy people.

An interview given to Reuters by Facebook's Chief Security Officer has revealed that the social networking giant actively monitors users and passes on indications of criminal activity to police authorities.
